3.Preposition of Time คือ คำบุพบทบอกเวลา ได้แก่
3.1 at ใช้กับจุดย่อยของเวลา,เวลาตามนาฬิกา,และช่วงเทศกาลประจำปี ได้แก่
at dawn ตอนรุ่งเช้า at noon ตอนเที่ยง
at night ตอนกลางคืน at six o’clock ตอน 6 โมง
at New Year ตอนปีใหม่ at Christmas ตอนช่วงคริสต์มาส
at midnight ตอนเที่ยงคืน at the moment ขณะนี้

กล่าวถึงช่วงเวลานั้นตลอดทั้งช่วง

-What are you doing at Christmas? ( ตลอดช่วงเทศกาลคริสต์มาส)
3.2 on ใช้กับวัน ( ซึ่งอาจมีเดือน พ.ศ. ด้วย ) ช่วงเวลา , วันสำคัญต่างๆ ได้แก่

on November 12 th ( on the twelfth of November )
on New Year’s Day on Christmas Day
on Songkran’s Day วันสงกรานต์

ข้อควรจำ ไม่ใช้คำบุพบทบอกเวลา in, on, at กับคำว่า today, tomorrow, yesterday และสำนวนบอกเวลาที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยคำบางคำ เช่น last, next, every, this เป็นต้น

สำนวนที่ใช้กันโดยทั่วไปอีกสองสำนวนคือ in time และ on time จะมีความหมายแตกต่างกันคือ
in time หมายถึง ทันเวลา (ก่อนเวลา ก่อนกำหนด) ส่วน on time จะหมายถึง ตรงเวลาพอดี
3.3 in ใช้กับช่วงเวลาของวัน, เดือน, ปี, ค.ศ., ศตวรรษ, ฤดู
in the morning in the afternoon in the evening
in June in 1996 in nineteenteh century
in summer/ in winter/ in autumn/ in spring มี article ‘the’ นำหน้าก็ได้
นอกจากนี้ in ยังใช้กับ การบอกกำหนดช่วงเวลาล่วงหน้า, ภายในเวลา เช่น
-I can read this book in 2 hours. ฉันสามารถอ่านหนังสือเล่มนี้ภายในเวลา 2 ชั่วโมง
-Ask me again in two or three days, please. โปรดถามฉันอีกครั้งในอีกสองสามวัน
หมายเหตุ : สำนวน in time = ทันเวลา แต่ on time = ตรงเวลา

ขอให้สังเกตว่า เมื่อกล่าวถึงฤดูกาลเป็นการเฉพาะ ( อาจหมายถึงช่วงเวลาใดเวลาหนึ่งในฤดูนั้น) ไม่ใช่กล่าวทั่ว ๆ ไป จะใช้ the นำหน้าด้วย
นอกจากนี้ in ยังใช้ในสำนวนดังเช่น in the morning/afternoon/evening ในสำนวน in the night เมื่อเป็นการกล่าวถึงคืนใดคืนหนึ่งเป็นการเฉพาะ (มักใช้ในกรณีของคืนวันที่ผ่านมา) และในสำนวน in the past, in the future

3.4 คำบุพบทอื่นๆที่ใช้บอกเวลา ได้แก่
during = ระหว่างเวลา, ตลอดระยะเวลา ค.ศ.,พ.ศ. เช่น during 1956 = ระหว่างปี ค.ศ. 1956 หรือthe/this/that + เวลา เช่น during the night = ตลอดคืนนั้น
– My father and my mother will to to Pataya during holiday.
คุณพ่อคุณแม่ของฉันจะไปพัทยาในช่วงวันหยุด
since = ตั้งแต่ (จุดเริ่มต้นของเวลา)
for = เป็นเวลา (ช่วงเวลา/ระยะเวลา)
till/until = จนกระทั่งอาจใช้ในรูป from…till/until
