– แบบรวม ได้แก่and และคำที่มีความหมายคล้าย and มาใช้เชื่อมเพื่อให้เป็น Compound Sentence ได้แก่คำต่อไปนี้

แมรี่เหนื่อยและก็หิวอีกด้วย

Mary is both tired and hungry.

แมรี่ทั้งเหนื่อยและหิว

Mary is not only tired but also hungry.

แมรี่ไม่เพียงแต่เหนื่อยเท่านั้นยังหิวอีกด้วย

การเชื่อมความด้วย or

– แบบเลือก ได้แก่ or และคำที่มีความหมายคล้าย or ที่นำมาใช้เชื่อมเพื่อให้เป็น Compound Sentence ได้แกคำต่อไปนี้คือ

or หรือ มิฉะนั้นแล้ว

or else หรือ มิฉะนั้น

either…….or (อันนี้) หรือ (อันนั้น)

neither…….nor ไม่(ทั้งอันนี้)และ (อันนั้น)

เช่น

He must go now, or he will miss the plane.

เขาจะต้องไปเดี๋ยวนี้มิฉะนั้นเขาจะไม่ทันเครื่องบิน

He must do this, or else he’ll be punished.

เขาจะต้องทำสิ่งนี้ หรือมิฉะนั้นแล้วเขาจะถูกทำโทษ

Either you or he has to do this.

คูณหรือเข้าก็ได้ต้องทำสิ่งนี้

Neither you nor your friends have to go to school on Sunday.

ทั้งคูณและเพื่อนของคูณไม่ต้องไปโรงเรียนวันอาทิตย์

– แบบเชื่อมความซึ่งเป็นเหตุเป็นผลแก่กันและกัน ได้แก่ so และ คำที่มีความหมายคล้าย so ได้คำต่อไปนี้คือ

การเชื่อมความด้วย because

Because มีความหมายว่า เพราะ, เพราะว่า เป็นคำเชื่อมที่ใช้แสดงเหตุและผล
ตำแหน่งการวางได้ 2 แบบ
–   แบบที่ 1 ประโยคแสดงผล + because + ประโยคแสดงเหตุ
ตัวอย่าง We didn’t go on a picnic because it was raining.
–   แบบที่ 2   Because + ประโยคแสดงเหตุ , ประโยคแสดงผล
ตัวอย่าง  Because it was raining, we didn’t go on a picnic.

การเชื่อมความด้วย even thoughหรือ although

Though มีความหมายว่า แม้ว่า ถึงแม้ว่า เป็นคำเชื่อมที่ใช้แสดงความขัดแย้ง โดยใช้แทนกันได้ ทั้ง although และ even though
Though / although/ even though + ประธาน + กริยา
